Program Benefits
The University of Houston is pleased to partner with the Wireless Infrastructure Association’s Telecommunications Education Center to implement this certification program supported by funding from the Texas Broadband Development Office, which offers:
- Job-Ready Certification: Participants will complete classroom training as well as active lab training using OpTIC Path™ curriculum—a comprehensive 144-hour certification program developed by the Fiber Broadband Association.
- Tuition-Free Participation: This program is delivered at NO COST to Texas residents thanks to a grant from the Texas Broadband Development Office.
- Support for Job Placement: Staffing professionals from Brooksource will provide additional support to participants, including mock interviews, resume reviews and collaborating with employers to assist with job placement.

Audience
This program is designed for individuals with no prior fiber experience, as well as those looking to upskill or transition into a new, high growth career field. It offers a strong entry point into an industry with expanding opportunities. A high school diploma is the minimum requirement to enroll.
Admission Details
Beginning the fall semester of 2026 (August or September), cohorts of students can take this program at the UH Houston Campus, Katy or Sugar Land campuses.
