Research Interests

Christof Karmonik, PhD is Scientific Director of the Translational Imaging Center and Director of the MRI Core at the Houston Methodist Research Institute in Houston, Texas. He leads the development and application of advanced magnetic resonance imaging technologies, with particular expertise in ultrahigh-field (7 Tesla) MRI, functional MRI, quantitative imaging, and artificial intelligence for medical image analysis. His research focuses on translating innovative imaging techniques into clinical and preclinical applications, spanning neuroscience, cardiovascular disease, and musculoskeletal imaging. Dr. Karmonik collaborates with investigators across multiple disciplines to develop novel MRI methods, imaging biomarkers, and computational approaches that advance biomedical research and improve patient care. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and is an invited speaker at national and international scientific meetings on advanced MRI and translational imaging.
